Media literacy is a communication skill that is related to the changing nature of information in our community. This includes the ability to both read and write. Media literacy is recognizing and comprehending data to the higher level of critical thinking skills.

Why is it important for you as FCM students to have Media Literacy?

As a student I need many information and useful data to guide me throughout my studies. I need to know where to find the information, verify the information whether the information is valid and relevant to my studies. I have to cite the information after I have validated it. This is the basic of media literacy.

In the field of studies that I have myself engage in deals a lot with extensive usage of multimedia, it is important for me to know how to interact with media. By having media literacy I can easily recognizes the function of interactive media activity. I can also make independent judgement about the information that I receive on the internet. Wide knowledge of media literacy can help me to define function of interactive media and turning it out of boredom or habit into more substantial usage.

Media Stereotypes

Basic Explanation On Media Stereotypes

Media stereotypes are usually use in advertising, entertainment and news industries. It works as medium that gives the audiences a quick understanding of a person or a group of people usually relating gender, race, ethnic and many more

The Other Media Stereotypes You Have Seen in TV or Movies

The other media stereotypes that I have seen in the tv or movies is the stereotypes that related to gender. Most of the movies I have seen extensively used girls as a weak and harmless subject that always get into trouble and need to be save, especially in the heroic type of movies. This kind of stereotypes can be common to us but not to the minority of women who really thought that they can take care of themselves. This will create a conflict between men and women. This group of women look men as a colony that likes to control women, thus they prefer to spend more time with their own kind and at some stage they started to develop a serious relationship.

Classification of people also commonly used as stereotype in movies. In movies the upper class people always labeled as cruel and evil while the lower class people are the people who suffer from the evil doing of the upper class people. This type of stereotype practically used in movies to create self consciousness among the people about how the lower class people are treated by the upper class people, but sometimes this stereotype can be uncomfortable to the person who think they have a similar characteristic with the characters in the movies.

No, because as we all know the internet has a wide coverage of user from all around the world, it is like a playground to the internet user and anyone can put any information in the internet without knowing the truth about the information. An 8 year old student could possibly write something political in the internet and should we agree with his or her points about politics? there are too many information on the internet but there information that we cannot simply trust because we don't know the real source of the information.

Some informers like to manipulate the information or the news that are already on the internet to confuse the user. Many article have been drifted from the actual fact in the internet, to make it more convincing they put some edited pictures in the article. Most of the user are easily fooled by this kind of method.
